This Privacy Policy explains how the Farin English learning application ("the App") handles information.
When you set up your profile, the App collects the name and learning preferences (level, goals, learning style) you enter. This information, along with your learning progress, is saved on your device and also backed up to our database (provided by Google Firebase) under a private recovery code, so you can continue your progress on another device by entering that code. If you choose a password, you can also continue by entering your name and that password. Your password itself is never stored; the App only keeps a one-way scrambled version of your name and password, used to find your account.
We do not require you to create an account with a password, and we do not collect your phone number unless you specifically choose to share it (see Section 2).
The App also saves basic usage information with your backup: when you joined, when you last opened the App, how many days and times you have opened it, your device type (for example Android or Windows, installed app or browser) and the App's display language.
When you use a speaking activity with the microphone (for example Say It Back or speaking practice), the App uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to turn your voice into text. In Chrome this sends the audio to Google's speech service for processing while you speak; the App itself does not record or store your voice. The microphone is only used when you tap the microphone button, and you can decline the permission - the activity then works without it.
In Settings, you may voluntarily check a box to let the designated teacher message you directly, which requires entering your phone number. This is entirely optional and off by default. If you opt in, your name, phone number, level, and goal are stored so the teacher can reach out to you, primarily via WhatsApp.
You can also choose to contact the teacher yourself at any time through the WhatsApp option in the App, in which case you may voluntarily share your name, level, goals, or any other information you include in your message.
Your information may be used to:
The teacher who runs the App can view saved profiles, progress and usage information through a password-protected admin page, to support learners and improve the App. Apart from that, your saved profile and progress are only accessible to someone who has your specific recovery code, or your name together with your password. Contact information you opt in to share (Section 2) is only accessible to the designated teacher, through a password-protected page. We do not sell your personal information.
When you or the teacher initiate contact through WhatsApp, that message and any information shared are sent through WhatsApp, a third-party messaging service operated by Meta.
Your use of WhatsApp is also subject to WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy.
Your data is stored using Google Firebase. Reasonable technical measures are used to protect it, but no method of electronic storage is perfectly secure. Keep your recovery code and your password private. Anyone who has your recovery code, or your name and password, can access the profile they're tied to.
The App is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
You may choose what information to share, and you can turn off direct-contact permission at any time in Settings. If you want your saved data or shared contact information deleted, you may request this directly from the teacher through the WhatsApp contact option in the App.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the updated version of this policy.
Words, sentences and stories are read aloud by recorded clips made with free, open-source text-to-speech. The clips are downloaded from the App's own website; nothing you type or say is sent anywhere to make them.
